Alice Dyke: The influential US-based political blog the Huffington Post has published a piece by Jamie Malanowski, the cynical writer and magazine editor, heralding the Convention on Modern Liberty as the opportunity to start a democratic movement in Britain.
The article gives a thorough outline of the Convention, including key speakers and a list of all regional events. Malanowski compares the Convention to a less dramatic storming of the Bastille, in terms of how it could pave the way for claiming our liberty. He goes on to describe the British people as ‘naturally subservient’, and suggests that we should learn about protecting our rights from our American neighbours.
Ultimately the article overwhelming calls for reform and the introduction of a British Bill of Rights, and believes the Convention is the first step in the right direction.
