Coroners and Justice Bill to be Watered Down

Alice Dyke: Jack Straw has today announced his plan to re-write the Coroners and Justice Bill, under pressure from privacy campaigners and civil liberties groups.  Privacy International have accused the Bill of failing to protect people from mass transfers of data.    The Independent has called the move “a clear sign the Government is worried about growing criticism that it is creating a Big Brother Britain”.

The Justice Secretary has not however abandoned plans for data-sharing altogether.

The Convention will be holding an afternoon session on the database state .
