Privacy policy

Overview
We are committed to protecting the privacy and security of your visits to this website and your participation in the Convention and its associated meetings and events. Unless clearly stated otherwise, all the events to which members of the the public are invited are fully public to the media and all members of the audience may be openly filmed and photographed without restrictions.

We wish to be able to announce the names of all those who share and support the concerns of the Convention. You will be given an opportunity to opt in to express your support, and can do so whether or not you are able to attend an actual meeting.

Collection and disclosure of information:

To ensure we are able to communicate effectively with visitors to our website and participants in the Convention and its associated meetings and activities we collect some information that can be directly associated with a specific person. We call this “Personal Information,” and it may include, by way of illustration, names, post codes, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.

We collect Personal Information from eligible individuals who directly and clearly request to receive e-mail or other specified services from us. We collect this Personal Information in order to provide these individuals with timely information via e-mail or web services regarding events, resources and issues.

It is our policy not to make Personal Information we have gathered available to anyone other than the Convention team who have access to it only on condition that they use it solely for the purposes of the Convention. For some Convention events, eg the regional meetings being organised by NO2ID, people from other organisations will be collecting such information. When they do, they do so on behalf of the Convention and they may not use that information for any other purposes without the explicit agreement of the individual concerned (the Convention will encourage its participants to support all its partner organisations).

Both our email service and our ticketing service use external sites. Our email service uses Feedblitz (you can read Feedblitz’s privacy policy here). Our ticketing service uses eventbrite (you can read eventbrite’s privacy policy here).

Participation, Opinions and Personal Information:

Registration for tickets for to the Convention in London any any of its associated events will be private.

The Convention on Modern Liberty is a “Call to all concerned with attacks on our fundamental rights and freedoms”. In this spirit we hope to be able to publish the names of all those who wish to publicly support the Convention and its associated meetings, events and online activities provided they explicitly agree to this.

The events themselves are public events which may be freely filmed, photographed and reported on by the media and by attending you are giving permission for your image to be used.

We will treat any comments you provide as public information and may associate it with your name unless it is clearly marked as private. We may also provide compilations of your comments to politicians or the press or organisations participating in our efforts, without disclosing email or home addresses.

Browser information collected on the web site:

We do not gather, request, record, require, collect or track any Internet users’ Personal Information through these processes.

Definition
By ‘The Convention’ we mean all the Convention on Modern Liberty events held on 28 February 2009 and the events that lead up to it (and may ‘feed-forward’ into it) and are held afterwards to feed-back their conclusions and issues as well as this website and all associated events organised by the Convention team.

The Convention is being run by a small ad-hoc team headed by the two co-directors, backed in particular by NO2ID across the country and openDemocracy which hosts the site and the office, supported by our sponsors The Rowntree Trusts, Liberty and the Guardian (our media partner) and advised by The Democratic Audit, (see Who page for more information).
